The University of Canberra (University) operates a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system, which includes cameras that are fixed at various locations around the University’s land and buildings. The camera technology is overlayed by an analytics system, but the University does not use the system for facial recognition. Fixed CCTV cameras are in use twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven days a week.

At our Bruce campus, we are committed to constantly reviewing and upgrading our security measures. To enhance security on campus, we have implemented several measures such as:

  • A more comprehensive CCTV network with a 24/7 control room to complement our dedicated team of security officers who patrol campus around the clock.
  • We have also significantly improved the lighting across campus, with floodlighting and lux-level sensor lighting installed to increase lit areas by 30 percent.
  • To improve line of sight for people, cameras and light throughout campus, we have cleared garden beds and lifted tree canopies.
  • Additionally, we have installed safe walking tracks to allow easy traversal from car parks to concrete walking paths and buildings.
  • These measures are part of our ongoing efforts to create a safe and secure environment for our students, staff, and visitors.
